Pesticide Application Registry & IPM Program

South Middleton School District has adopted an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for managing insects, rodents, and weeds. Our foremost goal is to protect students and keep them safe from pesticide exposure. Only after trying non-chemical and the least toxic means to control a pest problem will pesticide use be deemed necessary. If a pesticide is to be applied on the school district property, including during the summer months, a public notice will be posted 72 hours prior to the planned treatment and for 48 hours following the planned treatment.

Parents and guardians of enrolled students may request prior notification of specific pesticide applications made at SMSD. To receive notification, contact the District’s IPM Coordinator in writing to request to be placed onto this registry. This request must be submitted annually to the District’s IPM Coordinator with your name, phone number, and email address. Each year the District will prepare a new notification registry. Please mail your request to: Ryan Frey, Boiling Springs School District, 9 Academy St., Boiling Springs, Pa. 17007.

If a pesticide application must be made to control an emergency pest problem notice will be provided by telephone to any parent/guardian on the annual registry list. Exemptions to these notifications include disinfectants and anti-microbial products; self-containerized baits placed in areas not accessible to students, gel-type baits placed in cracks, crevices or voids; and swimming pool maintenance chemicals.
