2021-01-22 Quarantine Timeframe Update

On December 27th, 2021, the CDC announced changes regarding recommended COVID-19 isolation/quarantine timeframes (https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s1227-isolation-quarantine-guidance.html). In accordance with these updates, the South Middleton School District will reduce isolation/quarantine periods as follows:

Confirmed/*Probable COVID Case: 5-day isolation with return on Day 6 (Day 0 is symptom onset date or positive test date, whichever came first).  Can return on Day 6 if experiencing no symptoms or symptoms are resolving.  If you have a fever, continue to isolate until fever resolves.

*Probable Case is a known close contact of a confirmed case who experiences symptoms associated with COVID-19 but did not get tested.

Close Contacts Who DO NOT Reside with Confirmed/Probable Case: 5-day quarantine where day 0 is day of exposure.

Close Contacts Who Reside with Confirmed/Probable Case:  Quarantine begins when isolation timeframe starts for confirmed case, plus an additional 5-days following 5-day isolation period of confirmed case.

Consistent with previous procedures, students and employees who are vaccinated and without symptoms DO NOT need to quarantine if identified as a close contact.  However, vaccinated individuals that contract COVID-19 will need to isolate as per the guidelines above.  For those returning from quarantine and/or isolation, it is expected they wear a properly fitted mask.  Since our school currently mandates mask for the entire population, this will not deviate from historical operating COVID-19 procedures.
