Purpose:
The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic and Portuguese studies.

The Julio Cortázar Chapter was established by the World Language Department in January 2009. New members are inducted each March during National Foreign Language Week.
Requirements for Membership:
- I am a sophomore or junior.
- I have successfully completed Spanish II.
- I have already completed or I am currently enrolled in Spanish III.
- I am/was enrolled in a Spanish course this school year.
- I have a minimum 93% cumulative average of all Spanish courses taken from 8th grade to the present.
- I have a minimum 85% cumulative average of all high school courses.
- I have a behavioral record free from suspension, instances of academic dishonesty, and/or a pattern of inappropriate behavior.
- Transfer students will need to show proof of membership in SHH from another school, or meet all of the above requirements and have completed at least one Spanish course at BSHS.
- PLEASE REFER TO THE OFFICIAL APPLICATION FOR ALL REQUIREMENTS.
If you do not meet all of the above requirements, including seniors, you may still be considered for membership. Please explain your situation in paragraph form in the online application.
Application Process:
- The application will be available in January 2012 on this website.
- The online application must be submitted and the signature page returned to Mr. Bogdan in Room 200 no later than Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 3PM.
- The World Language Department will review each application.
- The Department will notify each applicant in writing of the decision in mid-February.
- A mandatory induction ceremony will be held during Block 1 on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.
The 2012 application period is now closed. Applications will be accepted next in January 2013.
Expectations & Yearly Requirements of SHH Members
Failure to meet these expectations may result in a warning, a probation period, or removal from the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica.
