A Brief History of the South Middleton School District
In 1995, the Boiling Springs Sesquicentennial Committee published At a Place Called the Boiling Springs. The book detailed the history of Boiling Springs and included a chapter on the history of the South Middleton School District. That chapter is included here, with permission of the writer and editor, Richard L.Tritt. We appreciate Mr. Tritt's generosity in sharing his book with us and the community. Since this book was published, other significant events have occurred in the history of the district. Dr. Patricia B. Sanker, the current superintendent, was appointed in 1998 to succeed Dr. Robert P. Miller, who retired. In 2000, the newly constructed Yellow Breeches Middle School opened with Dr. Frederick S. Withum, III taking the reins as its first principal. In 2004, full-day kindergarten was implemented for all kindergarten students at W. G. Rice Elementary School. During the years 2006-2007, the Boiling Springs High School underwent an extensive renovation project. With a supportive community, stable enrollment, modern facilities, and a strong group of administrators, teachers, and support staff, the district is well prepared to provide a quality education to today's students and those of the future.
